Ode to
alignment
The medium of pottery is a forgiving—if uncompromising—teacher.
As anyone who has tried their had at wheel throwing can tell you, it’s a technical craft involving a delicate dance with physics. As the potter’s wheel spins, centering is the first and most critical step in turning lump of mud into something useful—and beautiful. Without that centering, you’ll get a lopsided, sloppy mess. Every time.
Plumbline was born of these lessons at the wheel.
A plumb line is a tool used to ensure large structures, like buildings, are built to last. When the plumb is aligned with the center of gravity of the earth, the attached string creates a line that is perfectly vertical—or “true.”
Plumbline is a symbol of the ongoing practice of centeredness, and it is the celebration of the remarkable everyday beauty that results.
